Tech: What do you know about partial discharge (PD) phenomena?
At the previous post the theoretical and mathematical method has been mentioned for detecting the PD. Practically, there are a different techniques for a detecting a PD such as electromagnetic signals,UHF,TEV and DGA. Attached figure is showing an example for a single phase resolving recognition for the PD pulse, Corona discharge and noise patterns. In some cases when PD inside the void, is in the advanced stage, the PD signal will be disappeared. At this point, the void has transformed to electrical tree. therefor, the existence of electrical tree will produces pulse less discharge, and at this moment, cannot be detected. Additionally, the appearance of a moisture inside the insulation it may shows no PD during the measurement. Hence, Tan δ measurement using Dielectric Spectroscopy usually used to confirm water tree, or moisture inside insulation.
